HRG008 - heimwerker, Irish Wake
On Irish Wake, Portland-based producer Sean Pierce introduces his new moniker, heimwerker, and compresses decades of club culture, DIY experimentation, and personal history into two sharply focused tracks. "Ashame Kerrie Swine" builds from an uneasy, skeletal pulse into a dub-influenced, downtempo rhythm where drum machines, live percussion, and subtle live bass coalesce, all while field recordings made with Pierce’s son Arthur Robbins (of Alexa Graphics) surface throughout.
The title track shifts toward a more communal, swirling energy: layered synths and trumpet drift over re-amped break patterns and low-end swells, evoking both a warehouse climax and the melancholy that lingers after. Taut and immersive, Irish Wake sits at an intersection of club-ready downtempo, techno, and experimental practice. The production has a grainy, tactile quality that recalls early Muslimgauze or the dubwise edges of late-'90s Shackleton, but filtered through a more intimate, domestic lens.
If you like what you hear, keep your ear to the ground for more from heimwerker in the coming months.
