HRG003 - Bob Desaulniers, A Day Later
Digital and C20 Cassette
While Portland-based explorer Bob Desaulniers may be best known for his airtight bass contributions in essential no-wave outfit Lithics, he's been quietly blasting the concept of tape manipulation into the stratosphere for well over a decade—both under his birth name and more recently as Translucent Envelope. On A Day Later, Desaulniers prioritizes intention over atmosphere, delivering a series of time-stopping solo guitar pieces and thoughtfully curated field recordings that are both sparse and highly effective. Desaulniers' finger-style compositions nod softly to the American Primitive movement, but never at the expense of their own identity and flavor. While his production hand is light here, the shards of tasteful hiss and tape warble peppered in are more than enough to add a transportive sense of heightened reality.
